Oh My Gosh!

Riding in France was instantly wonderful - small villages, wheat fields, lovely green ways - so close to Paris, but peaceful. We have met many people, mostly when asking directions.

Thanks to Mr. Langley-- way back in high school-- I have had no problem being understood. The people of France have all been very friendly and helpful.

We are now in Chartres, and have washed clothes, got groceries, and will go soon to see the cathedral and ancient part of the city.

Another Beautiful Day in Paris

We saw so much in Paris today... Montmartre, the Arch de Triumph, St Germaine. Two favorites were walking the river and the beautiful Petite Palais with great art and a beautiful courtyard garden. We walked almost continually from before 8 am to about 7 pm. Weather was perfect. Tomorrow morning we leave Paris on our bikes.

Another busy day.

Today we walked the Jewish quarter, the Marais, had something to drink at the Louvre Cafe (we wanted to use their nice bathrooms), and had a dinner with Dan and Sue at our hotel room. Baguette, cheese, tapenade, salami, and chocolate. We ate and talked about details toward riding bikes to Chartres. Only one more day in this beautiful city!

It's true, good wine, less than 4 dollars!

We're Really There!

We've Arrived... and We've Seen Paris!

We arrived in Paris at 8:30am on Saturday after a nine-hour flight, tired but excited, and our bikes all made it without any problem. We assembled our bikes on Saturday. It was hot and we were very tired, but wanted to be able to get out for a little ride. We were too tired once the bikes were together and took it easy, eating a nice dinner at a sidewalk cafe and taking naps.  

On Sunday morning, Glenn and Marla rode through Paris at sunrise. There are bike lanes everywhere. We saw Notre Dame, the Seine River, crossed bridges, and were about the only visitors at the Eiffel tour!

Later we rode more with Dan and Sue, and people filled the city.  We also took two bike tours with Fat Tire Bike Company. The second tour ending with a night boat ride on the Seine River.

We rode and walked forty miles and got a good look at Paris.
